Public petition calling for end to parliamentary switch-off published

A Parliamentary public petition has been created asking the Government to stop the closure of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). The petition highlights concerns for the safety of elderly and vulnerable people if the PSTN is switched off.

The petition argues that the PSTN provides a reliable way for elderly and vulnerable people to keep in touch with others, especially in emergencies when other communication methods may fail. The petition is open until 7 November 2025 and will receive a Government response if it reaches 10,000 signatures. If it reaches 100,000 signatures, it will be considered for debate in Parliament. Currently the petition has 19 signatures.
