ITSPA launches IP PBX Security Guide

ITSPA, the voice of the next generation communications industry in the UK, today launched its latest best practice guide on security recommendations when setting up an IP PBX. The document, ‘Recommendations for secure deployment of an IP-PBX’ outlines configuration measures that should be implemented on an IP-PBX installed in customer’s premises as well as the support that service providers can give to assist in the identification and avoidance of attack.

The update of this document follows in-depth collaboration with members, including a range of service providers, security experts and vendors and forms part of ITSPA’s stream of work to ensure that the industry follow best practice to tackle telecommunications fraud, estimated globally to cost $46 billion putting 2% on the average user’s bill.

Chair of ITSPA Eli Katz said “I am delighted that the latest version of our ‘Recommendations for secure deployment of an IP-PBX’ best practice document has now been published. I am proud that ITSPA continues to lead the way in combating telephony fraud and this is a further example of our extensive work to keep security front of mind both for our members and consumers. ITSPA continues to engage with law enforcement agencies and Government to tackle the crime of telephony fraud and retains the desire to see revenue payments that occur through the termination of telephone calls blocked”.

Katz added “ITSPA and the entire next generations communications industry welcomes the Government’s increased focus on all cyber-crimes, however, we urge the Government to increase its focus on telephony fraud as part of its recently published Cyber Security Strategy. Better understanding and coordination within law enforcement and industry is vital and we are certainly here to support that process”.

The ‘Recommendations for secure deployment of an IP-PBX’ document is now available in the Best Practice Documents section of the ITSPA website.
