Government breaks down barriers to help more women and girls enter the tech sector

As an association running Women in Telecoms Group, we were excited to see new government measures announced today, aimed at boosting female participation in tech.

⭐️ Hundreds of women to get new opportunities in tech as government announces new programme supporting 300 tech roles across the country

⭐️ Thousands of 12 and 13 year old girls to experience what a future in tech could look like for them as new, expanded UK-wide girls tech competition prepares to launch

⭐️ Women supported to return to tech jobs after a career break, through new pilot jobs scheme for skilled tech talent

⭐️ Women in Tech Taskforce launch Call for Evidence to ensure the work they deliver today, builds a stronger tech sector for all tomorrow

Natalie Strange, Co-Chair, Comms Council UK Women in Telecoms Group commented “Today’s announcement is a really positive step towards tackling the structural barriers that keep too many women and girls out of tech and telecoms. Funded placements through the TechFirst Women’s Programme, targeted returnships for experienced developers, and the expanded girls’ competition together create a much clearer pathway into, and back into, the sector. Crucially, the Women in Tech Taskforce’s Call for Evidence shows a real commitment to listening to women’s lived experience and using it to shape future policy. By combining practical opportunities with a focus on long‑term change, this package can help ensure women are not just present in our industry, but progressing and leading it.”
