Ofcom has refreshed its consumer guidance on scam phone calls and texts, reflecting the continued rise in telecoms enabled fraud and the role of phone and SMS in missed delivery, banking and government‑themed scams. The advice focuses on simple protective behaviours for suspicious messages: Stop, Don’t click, Report (to 7726), and for suspicious calls: Stop, Hang up, Report (to Report Fraud), stressing that even tech‑confident users should report scams to help disrupt criminals.
The update reiterates how the 7726 short code enables mobile users to report unwanted texts and calls free of charge so providers can investigate and act on abusive traffic. It also directs victims to Report Fraud and signposts wider Ofcom materials on nuisance calls and affordability. For CCUK members, this underlines the importance of clear in‑journey messaging on 7726 and Report Fraud, and of aligning customer communications with consistent national advice on how to recognise and report scam communications.
