Home Office launches its Fraud Strategy and the new Online Crime Centre

Over the past few years, our members have seen first-hand how quickly fraudsters adapt: exploiting digital channels, targeting vulnerable users and eroding trust in the communications systems we all rely on.

That is why we strongly welcome the launch of the UK Home Office’s new Fraud Strategy and the creation of the Online Crime Centre, and we are proud to have supported this work.

For our sector, this Strategy is an important step forward. It recognises that telecoms networks are both a frontline for fraud prevention and a vital source of intelligence, and it places cross‑sector collaboration at the centre of the UK’s response.

As our Chair, Tracey Wright, puts it:

“Fraud prevention is a top priority for Comms Council UK and our members, and we welcome the Government’s renewed focus through the Fraud Strategy. Fraudsters move fast and continually adapt their tactics, so our defences must be equally agile, from stronger due diligence and smarter use of technology, to rapid reporting.”

Comms Council UK and our members are committed to playing our full part – building on our experience with the Telecommunications Fraud Charter and continuing to innovate in how we detect, prevent and report fraud.
