Ofcom publishes 2024-5 Annual Report and Accounts

Ofcom published its Annual Report and Accounts for the year to 1st April 2025, detailing its work over the past year and current objectives across its regulated sectors, including telecoms – highlighting that 25 million homes in the UK can now access gigabit-capable connections.

The report references the recent Telecoms Access Review (TAR) and their plans to “promote wholesale competition”, as well as their work to make telecoms services more affordable (social tariffs) and accessible (switching) for customers, as well as resilient overall.

Additionally, in the past year Ofcom has consulted on and brought in regulations for the online safety regime, including studies around three major areas of harm to children, as well as enforcement against companies which have failed to comply with the new regulations.

Further to this, Ofcom Chairman Lord Grade gave a speech in light of the annual report which highlighted Ofcom’s intended approach to be a regulator that “enables, engages and evolves” with industry.
