Alex Jennings, Smartnumbers

Alex has close to twenty five years’ experience in the telecoms sector and has worked across Europe on a variety of telecom projects in that time. Her career began at Telewest in 1993 as Interconnect Manager in the Wholesale Department where she focused on interconnect billing and gained a strong background in cable networks, regulation and commercial negotiations. Later, as a Wholesale Account Manager, her responsibilities grew to include leased lines and mobile interconnects.

Since 1999, Alex has worked as an independent consultant covering regulatory and commercial interconnect issues for a range of clients including Tiscali, Telewest, Energis and Orange, together with various start-up cable and internet/VoIP companies. Much of her client work has focused on interconnection (in particular commercial agreements) and regulatory compliance, advising communications providers on regulatory developments in the market and how these might impact on their business.

She has also been heavily involved in preparing responses to industry consultations and market reviews (i.e. Simplifying Non-Geographic Numbers, the Narrowband Market Review and the Business Connectivity Market Review) and regularly advises clients on numbering and portability issues. She also wrote the first NGA Open Access interconnect agreement in the UK.

Alex has UK Home Office Security Clearance valid through until June 2019.
